PRESS REALEASE 22 APRIL, 2008 WORLD'S FIRST PERMANENT BAR MADE OF ICE NOW TWICE AS BIGGraffiti artists transform the new ABSOLUT ICEBAR STOCKHOLM. April 21 sees the reopening of the world’s first permanent bar made of ice, ABSOLUT ICEBAR STOCKHOLM, at the Nordic Sea Hotel. The bar has received a major facelift, thanks to the talents of graffiti artists Daniel ”Ikaroz” Diaz and Pierre ”Slak” Johansson. Ice artists Mark Armstrong and Mikael Nilsson also made their mark. The conversion means that ABSOLUT ICEBAR STOCKHOLM, which previously had room for 30 people, will now be able to fit in twice as many guests. Daniel Diaz and Pierre Johansson have both been active on the street-art scene since the mid 80s. They have had several exhibitions, given talks and carried out several design commissions of various kinds. The commission from ABSOLUT ICEBAR STOCKHOLM was to create a unique urban interior environment inspired by street art, using only ice as the basic material. “Designing ABSOLUT ICEBAR STOCKHOLM was a very interesting project, and quite a challenge. It was great to be able to work with an organic material such as ice, and then transform it into an urban form of expression. We’re really happy with the result,” says Daniel Diaz, graffiti artist. “There’s been a huge amount of interest in ABSOLUT ICEBAR STOCKHOLM, and we needed to extend the bar. It’s a great feeling to be able to open the new bar with Daniel's and Pierre’s design. We must be the only bar in the world that is made of a several-metre-long ghetto blaster of ice. It’s an exclusive experience,” says Emelie Klein, press spokesperson at ABSOLUT ICEBAR STOCKHOLM. ABSOLUT ICEBAR STOCKHOLM reopens on 21 April, at the Nordic Sea Hotel on Vasaplan 4 in central Stockholm. > Read more and download PDF
