Sources and method
How this archive was rebuilt, what it is made of, and what it does not have.
Sources
- The Internet Archive. The Wayback Machine's capture index for this domain and its
press.subdomain, and the captures themselves. 217 distinct URLs were captured across three eras. Every archive page here is written from the largest surviving pre-2019 capture of that exact URL. - The domain's own link profile. A backlink export was used to identify which URLs outside publications actually link to, so that those URLs are rebuilt first and none of them is left to 404.
- Current operator and reference sources for the after-the-fact questions: which bars are still open, and under what names.
Three eras share this URL space
| Era | Years captured | What it was | Treatment |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | 2006–2018 | The official Absolut Icebar site, on an ASP.NET CMS —
the /web/*.aspx pages and a press. press room. |
Rebuilt. |
| 2 | 2024 | An online-casino site under /desktop/, 145
URLs, published by a later owner. |
410 Gone, every one. |
| 3 | 2026 | This archive. | — |
The eras do not overlap: no /desktop/ URL has a capture before 2019, and no
/web/ URL has one after 2018. That is what makes it safe to remove one era
completely without throwing away any of the other.
What the archive does not have
- The photography. Press images were served through a binary handler rather than as files, and were not captured usably. See the image bank note.
- The PDFs. Every press release offered a downloadable PDF. None survives.
- Eight of the ten press releases exist only as the one-line summaries the press index carried. They are listed as summaries, not written up as if the full text were available.
- The press subdomain.
press.absoluticebar.comran a separate press room with fact sheets, an image list and contact pages. It is captured but not rebuilt, and no DNS record points at it.
Method
The capture index was pulled for every host under the domain, not just the apex — querying only the apex misses subdomains entirely, and would have missed the press room. Captures were selected by taking the largest response per URL within era 1, which avoids rebuilding a page from a truncated or challenge-page capture. Text was extracted from those captures, and each page here was then written from that text.
The routing is generated from the same capture index rather than maintained by hand, so a URL cannot silently fall out of the map, and the whole thing is verified before every deploy: each rebuilt page must answer 200 at its own address, each redirect must reach its destination in exactly one hop, and every casino URL must answer 410.
